About Us

The principal of ELLIS BROS is Mr Stephen (Steve) M. Ellis. The 52 year old Dunedin-born Mr Ellis has a background in financial journalism.


He worked for nearly 10 years on newspapers in New Zealand (Otago Daily Times, National Business Review and the New Zealand Herald), Australia and South Africa.


Since 1985, when he joined sharebroking concern Whiteman & Co, Mr Ellis has filled research and advisory roles in a number of major NZ sharebroking firms.


After moving from research to institutional dealing at Whiteman & Co and the re-named ANZ McCaughan, Mr Ellis took a senior institutional advisory role at Fay, Richwhite Equities in the early-1990s. He then returned to ANZ McCaughan to direct that firm's dealing functions before setting up Ellis Bros in 1996.


ELLIS BROS was initially established in Dunedin and was relocated to Auckland's North Shore in January 1998.
